Re: Remove bearings
bearing puller
You can usually get one on loan from a chain auto parts store.
Don't use a screwdriver and hammer.
I suggest you watch a bunch of videos on this stuff to educate yourself. Crankshafts are expensive. Other parts are also.

Re: Remove bearings
Can you feel or detect any vertical play in the big end rod bearing? Side to side play is normal but should be measured anyway with a feeler guage.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

No vertical play in the rod, I would run it.

Re: Remove bearings
No. Always replace your crank bearings after using tools to remove them.

Re: Remove bearings
That is the correct type of tool, but that looks like the harbor freight special that is not large enough. I have the Tusk Tool which works great but isn't cheap. You may be able to make yours work by using longer bolts to connect the 2 halves together. Also be liberal with the heat on the bearing.

Re: Remove bearings
Joeymf, sorry to see you are struggling with this. Check that video that bufftester linked above. Like bufftester says, you may be able to make yours work by using longer bolts on the bearing contact plates and/or increasing the standoff lengths. Without a photo from your setup, I can't tell for sure. Additional notes: 1) the Tusk bearing puller costs about $65, and 2) Yes, there is another way. You'd take the crank to a machine shop.

Re: Remove bearings
oh, make the bearing with a paint dab before pulling it so you know which side goes into the case and which side goes against the crank.
