Hello all. I have just bought a kdx 200 1989. I want to convert it from AC to DC add a full loom ignition and battery so I can have indicators etc. Has anyone done this and any help would be appreciated. I'm in the UK. Cheers Tim.

Tim, Many riders that make the elerictrical system you want to use rectifier/regulators like this one (link below). However, some are using China--made to save a few bucks and experience the fun of seeing whether or ot they work.

Then you fit right in. There is a series of wiring diagrams in the above linked forum page. These diagrams are very good and should help you a lot.

I have that exact regulator rectifier on my 1997 220. My other KDX220 has the AC voltage regulator and a Cyclops Adventure Sports inline rectifier. Oddly that regulator rectifier is not shown on the Trail Tech website any longer for some reason, yet I can find it all over the Internet for sale. The $29 AC voltage regulator that I have is shown on their website still. Odd.

The one you linked is definitely the nicest one on the market for our purposes, and is the one necessary if running a battery to power lights and cooling fans when the engine is not running.

Chuck, in part said, "...running a battery to power lights and cooling fans..."

Fans?! That's neat!

Chuck, please tell me what this feature is about for the hyperlinked Trail Tech rectifier/regulator. Why is aautomatic shutoff bneficial? What happens if you don't have automatic shutoff?

"Built in relay activates switched 12V DC output line only when engine is running, with adjustable shut-off delay"

I believe that is for bikes which run a battery, so the battery somehow doesn't slowly discharge? That's just my best guess but I believe that to be correct although further research would be necessary to guarantee that assumption.
