Bottom end did not go together. How do I recover?

Post by 79440LTD »

I am assembling the bottom end on my 1999 KDX220R. I installed the crank bearings with heat and cold. They dropped right in. I installed the crank into one half and it dropped right in with heat and cold. I went to install the other half of the crankcase using the same method and it locked up partway on. How do I recover? Any way to save the bearings and crank? I have a case splitter but would like to save the bearings and the freshly rebuilt and balanced crank if possible. Recommendations? It is going to have to come apart so I can get the Kawibond adhesive off.

Brand new bearings? I would just use my crank [EDIT: I meant case] splitter and reuse everything. I've done it before on one of my KDX builds with no issue.

Yes, new OEM bearings. Crankworks did the crank with OEM parts as well. I will split, inspect and try again. Thanks for the reply!

Your fine. All your parts are just fine. Get that case half back off & try again.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Use a crank puller.

Yep, that's the easiest way to go about it.
