Hi guys,
I'm backing doing the 2002 KDX220 build.
The first question is,what are you guys doing when it comes to replacing all of the rubber grommets, bushings and isolator pads?
I need the rubber grommets and metal sleeves that go on the radiators, gas tank, exhaust silencer and I would like to replace the four rubber pad that are glued to the frame also.
I purchases the IMS super stock pegs. With the stock pin and spring they aren't exactly drop in replacements when it comes to the springs. The peg brackets on the bike are worn so I'll be repairing this with weld then grinding them to factor spec but I haven't found any springs that actually work well for these IMS pegs.
Have any of you thought of a better way to source these rubber isolator grommets parts for this bike or should I order some lube and buy OEM?
Thank you
C

Re: Is OEM the only option?
The round vibration isolator bushings/grommets could certainly be sourced elsewhere, but the pads that the fuel tank sit on are pretty proprietary looking, but I'm sure something else could be substituted and glued onto the frame in a pinch.
I can't comment on the IMS footpeg spring question.

Re: Is OEM the only option?
Thanks Chuck,
I was hoping that somebody could tell me the source of the bushings/grommets because there is going to be a lot of trial and error trying to obtain the correct sizes. The project is so huge that I can't imagine the time it would take just to get all of these parts right. Out of all of the rubber pieces I think the tank pad could be made out of just about soft flexible rubber. The truth is that the tank pads are still on there and in decent shape but I didn't want to mask around them to sandblast and paint but I guess I'll being doing that. It's not a matter of laziness but thoroughness. I'm not the kind of guy that masked around outlet plates to paint a wall. Remove everything and do it right.
Thanks again bud.

Ok so I guess I'll be making these grommets out of old tires? With all the KDX rebuilds and refurbishing projects on here I thought there would be a least one option besides OEM. No?

I can't remember hearing of anyone else making the rubber parts.
Thank you for participating on kdxrider.net.

No, just OEM. Don't see what the problem is with going Kawasaki.soup-n-sandwich wrote: 01:35 pm Mar 02 2026 Ok so I guess I'll be making these grommets out of old tires? With all the KDX rebuilds and refurbishing projects on here I thought there would be a least one option besides OEM. No?

#1 price - they cost more. But worth it at present due to the time it'd take searching for the correct dimensions of grommets and sleevesSlick_Nick wrote: 10:15 am Mar 04 2026No, just OEM. #2 future availability - at some point in the next 10-15 years, these may be NLA from Kawasaki
