Hello folks. Thanks for having me and I am looking forward to digging through your forum. After 20 years of riding street I finally got my first dirt bike and I am stoked. It’s a 2005 KDX 200. The previous owner had it plated and set up with a Baja Designs headlight system, Speedo pick up off the rear wheel, brake lights and rear turn signals. Most of that wasn’t working so I removed it and getting back to square one and then I’ll re assess if I want to plate it and make it work. Looks like the fender are from a MX bike. Looking forward to getting out on the trail.

Jared, this looks like a very nice dirt bike.
I bought a KDX 220 about 4 years ago from a teenager in Arizona. He installed a Tusk lighting kit with LEDs and small battery that ran everything except the headlight. He installed a two beam aftermarket headlight that was powered from the lighting coil like the OEM light. The bike was registered & plated. Once home with the bike, I rewired some of wht the previous owner did. Notable changes involved adding switches to turn off all lights, pressure activated brake light switch to front to provide switch on both brakes, and revising headlamp wiring to run the high beam and not just the low beam.
I like having a registered & plated dirt bike. It makes it easy to get on roads to access dirt trails and allows me to ride in off-road areas that require plated bikes.

The rear fender may be a Maeir brand fender. It is for the KDX, just a non-light rear fender.

If you can keep it plated, do. In the PNW Forest Service doesn't recognize the states regulations that allow non plated bikes to use the state forest roads. If you're on a National Forest road, of which in WA there are like 10 gazillion and you have to use them to link trails, you have to be road legal. Welcome to the wonderful PNW dirt scene!
