Keep or replace this rim?
Doing spokes, a handful were seized, most hard to turn. It’s taken some good hits and getting pretty difficult to tighten and true because of the spokes. I’m wondering what your opinion is on running on running this rim. It’s mostly straight, the photo is of the biggest dent, the rest aren’t really noticeable unless it’s being trued. I think the corrosion is superficial. Hopefully it’s going to be a really long time or never until I take it down this far again and I don’t want the rim to impede that plan. I’m using Exel spline drive SS spokes fwiw.

Re: Keep or replace this rim?
I would try to read up on bending the rim back in. On the corrosion, I would lightly sand down the rough parts. Two rounds of duct tape was the old method before someone came up with $8 per wheel "special tape". I would definitely sand and polish the spoke head beds (the area where the spoke heads set. I would also put a drop of lube on them when building the wheels. You might get false spoke tension otherwise.

Re: Keep or replace this rim?
I use anti seize on the contact points of the spokes. It allows them to move years down the road and has a bit of a sealing effect I like to believe. I cant stand that manufacturers put them together dry or whatever they do so that spokes become hard to turn so quickly. The photo is after I used a wire wheel to knock the oxidized material off, its shallow pitting. I think I’m not going to run it. It would probably be fine but I’ll pay 150 so that it’s easy and clean I suppose. It took this long to make it look that bad, I’ll be good knowing the new one should last another 20-30 years before it looks like that. What does the tape do? Prevent corrosion/seal the rim? I use silicon tape for a rim band and baby powder on the tube/tire, but I don’t put anything for moisture or corrosion on the inside of the rim because I didn’t know if it would penetrate and weaken the tube or tire.KDXGarage wrote: 01:10 pm May 31 2025 I would try to read up on bending the rim back in.
