New rear sprocket?

Serious question, is it time for a new sprocket? I've heard/read that when its time to replace sprocket(s) you should also replace chain?

LOL Yeah, way past time. Always go new chain when changing sprockets. Oh, get steel sprockets so they last a long time as well.

I always keep an eye out for aluminum sprockets NOS on eBay, as it's a good place to save weight, but with a shorter chain length from the previous owner's supermoto gearing requiring a 12/44 and/or current 12/45 gearing, the 12T on the front (Renthal) and the aluminum composition on the rear both wear out the sprockets faster... I'd just put new 12/45 combo on & then almost immediately after, the chain lost some bushings/rollers, so I stuck on a lightly used chain again shortened to this gearing... Shorter is lighter!

I really like the Renthal TwinRing sprockets, and have a 13/48 setup and new chain awaiting for the next full rebuild. The TwinRing is a steel outer ring with aluminum center.

If going all steel, the Dirt Tricks rears are the way to go for weight savings, but they are not cheap...

The Renthal TwinRing are only listed for the KX for some reason the last I looked, but are exact fitment on the KDX.

Run an RK Excel chain MXU x-ring chain, they are the strongest lightweight sealed chain you will find.

That sprocket is SHOT!
