1985 200 piston kit

Post by froggy »

I am trying to find a piston kit for my 85 kdx 200 with no luck. Will a piston from a 86-88 200 work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I love my 85 but it needs the cylinder redone with a new piston kit to keep her running for years to come.

1985 200 piston kit

No replys, so I will post what I found out. A 86-2006 uses the same piston, so I ordered one for my 1985. Their is a difference. I ordered a weisco and the skirt is a little too long. I filed down the skirt a couple of mm's and now it works fine. I raced a vintage race race last weekend with no issues. This may be helpfull to others as their is not any kits available for the 83-85 200's. A newer piston has a bigger hole in the back of the piston over a stock one, but other than that the pistons are the same, with the exception of the longer skirt. Their was a little lip on the weisco piston skirt, that is what I filed down with a bench sander, took 5 minutes, very simple.
Hope this may help somebody in the future.

I pulled my 84 apart and it was over bored and sleeved and needed another bore so I orderd an 68mm Wiseco for a newer kdx. I got the piston and its exactly the same height. Doesn't seem to be a lip to grind off.
