Hard starting

I cant find my old post but i pulled my bike out of the shed today for the first time. It is about 55 and i have it jetted for 75-80. Anything i can do to get the bike to start easier? Most of the time it takes 50 kicks at least and i am too tired to ride after that. I was thinking to rejet but the bike runs excellent when it starts not too lean and not to rich.

I had the same problem with mine. A guy I work with told me to turn the gas on and lean the bike over to the left until it starts to pee, then kick it. It seems to work, when I do this it will usually start on the first or second kick. Probably not the ideal way to do it, but it works.

Use the choke Ryan...

So wahat are we looking at here?

Bad gas? Old plug? Start at the basics if you haven't already.

Put a richer pilot jet in and try it...

i tipped it and gas did come out the overflow but when i put her upright and kicked she didnt fire. Am i suppose to kick her over when she is tipped?

I would take the carb out, give a real good cleaning to the jets with carb cleaner, replace my plug and change the gas.
Shouldn't be that hard to start. mine is good from 40 to 100F. The only time I had to kick it more than 2 times was around 30-35F.
I'd be suspicious about the gas and carb since you mentioned: "took out of the shed today"...

First thing I'd do is drain the carb, there's a drain on the bottom of the bowl

When this happens to me 90% of the time it is from water/condensation in the fuel

My bike sat for a year and a half, I drained the carb and it started right up with the same old gas in it

Just started my Harley X90 couple days ago. It has been in storage for 4 years. Before storing it I drained the carb. I pulled it out of my shed on Wednesday, gas still smelled ok, started on the seventh kick

If you can't get it to fire within ten kicks I'd say you probably have some water in your gas

Ryan, when you put the bike in storage last fall did you Stabil the fuel?

If not, then drain the gas out and put new stuff in. And install a brand new spark plug. My .02 :supz:

If your pilot jetting is lean it will be harder to start when cold even with the choke on. (I'm assuming decent gas and no water in carb bowl and a firing spark plug)

1. Lean it over till it pees.

2. Stand the bike back up. Hold the kill switch and kick the engine through 4 times with the choke on.

3. Release the kill switch and kick start the bike.

If it doesn't start within three kicks you must have another problem.

Good Luck!

started up after i let it sit in the sun for about 45 minutes. Probably just had to get everything circulating again.

I kinda doubt sitting in the sun had much impact

it was about a 20-25 degree difference from my shed to the sun.
