1999 KDX 200 idle screw doesn't make difference
Turning the screw all the way in only makes a microscopic difference at the final turns. How do i fix this? I've read many other forums with a similar problem with no correct answer. The bike runs overall rough when giving it throttle. It idles very weak. It's powerful and fast when giving it a lot of throttle though.

Normally this would be improper jetting or the idle circuit in the carb is plugged up. What pilot jet is in the carb now? Did you follow the jetting guide to jet your bike properly?

Welcome to kdxrider. Can you give some details on what else you have tried, as far as filter, reeds, etc. ?
Thank you for participating on kdxrider.net.

1999 KDX 200 idle screw doesn't make difference
I haven't tried anything yet. I just bought the bike and haven't taken the carb apart yet so i have no idea what pilot jet is in the carb nor do i know how to figure out which one i have currently installed. I just want my bike to run smoother altogether. I just noticed my bike now starts up on an extremely high idle and when ridden on for a while it wants to die if i don't give it gas..SS109 wrote:Normally this would be improper jetting or the idle circuit in the carb is plugged up. Somewhere, there is a "I just got a KDX and what should I do to check it out" thread.
Air filter cleaned and oiled?
Carb dirty?
fuel level?
float valve?
reeds?
which spark plug?
new plug / plug that came with it?
gasoline type and octane?
two-stroke oil?
plus about 4 other things
If I had to guess one thing, it would be dirty carb. Perfect jetting and a dirty carb means it won't run well.

This may come across as snarky, but it is not meant to. You just got a bike that runs rough, haven't done the basics, and want an answer as to how to fix it. Hence Jason's list.
Start by going here and checking out Scheckaet's New Owners Guide.
Then pull the carb, clean it well, and fix any mechanical issues with intake/exhaust (Clean filter, new plug, no air leaks, etc) and start the Jetting Checklist.
If you haven't already, get a manual and torque wrench if you're planning on doing your own maintenance.
