OK,, I HAVE A 1998 kdx 220r ,,that just will not quite get to the high rpm range ,,don't miss starts right up, I cleaned the carb..any one have any idea ,,I think its the power valve system ,,I have to admit I don't know much about it ,,

what are you comparing it too ?
the 200 is the screamer, the 220 has more torque down low and doesnt like to rev
you can pop the screw on the KIPS cover off and see if it opens...it could be gunked up

thank ..you ,,I have had a few kdx 220 and 200 bikes this one just does not produce the power I know it should

I am gonna look at the kips today just not sure just how it should work ,,and I don't want to tear it all down this week as I have a ride planned this weekend

is there an effective way to clean kips system with put taking the head apart ?

May want to double check to make sure you don't have a OEM cast piston in there too. I agree about the kips cleaning for sure. Did you play with the jetting at all when you had the carb apart? Maybe its off a bit making it hesitate or bog.
Here is a good thread about how to take apart the entire top end (KIPS included) and reassemble. I didn't know much about it the first time I did it either, but its a straightforward process, its not too bad. Get yourself some Brakleen or kerosene and get to cleaning. Just don't break off the LH thread plastic shaft (seen in the last photo of the original post) http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/657765 ... to-kdx200/

No, I just cleaned it did not change the jets ,,not that up on proper jetting

checked reeds,,not powewr valve ,,may try a tear down deep clean and replace ?
