building up an extremely well used and neglected 1990 KDX200, and the cylinder and piston is toast. which piston does well in these bikes?

OEM?

Pro-X?

Wiseco?

Other??

this is my first Kawi. i use Vertex and OEM in my previous bikes, YZ's, CR's, KTM's. some Wiseco, but I'm not a big fan of forged pistons. only used them when i needed to for high performance builds.

I'm also going to have the cylinder replated too. going to try out U.S.Chrome this time around. i read they give AMA discounts. have used Millennium in the past. never had a problem with them. anyone have experience with U.S. Chrome?

Thanks!

No experience with Chrome and like you, I have use Millennium. If you can get better pricing then I would not hesitate to send to Chrome as I have heard just as many good things about them as Millennium.

On piston, I have used Vertex the most and them Wiseco. Never used OEM so cannot say.

so there IS a Vertex available for a 90 KDX?

where did you buy yours?

edit:
i searched again and it doesn't look Vertex are available for my bike.

I'm leaning towards OEM.

Thanks!

I'm looking for durability. Not worried if it's 20 bucks more.

I just finished removing all the studs from the cylinder. Power valve parts look so so. The gears are a bit beat up. Maybe I should put in a set of those stainless steel ones from that UK vendor. I could run these ones, but I can't help but think that once these wear out completely the stainless steel ones might not be around anymore.

You may wish to read around the internet on replating vendors. I might not stray from Millenium.

I agree. Langcourt does pretty good work as well, though. For your piston, Pro X IS OEM. If you want something forged then go with the Wiseco. Either option works great in the 200.

Wiseco is a good choice or if you want something very nice get a Wossner.

I've used Wiseco from a CR250R down to a PW80. No problems so far and for what it's worth my local machine shop uses their stuff too.

Good Luck!
