Wont Idle

Post by danberreth »

Hi all, i got a 94 kdx 200 it has a lot of mods done fmf pipe, reeds, when I got it it was all set up ran real good. On a cold start it would rev real high and come down to normal as it warmed up, then idle fine. After a winters rest it starts easy, but would not idle, turned idle speed screw in to stop to no avail. I cleaned the carb, fired 1st kick no more high rev on cold start, idle and ran great, rode it about 10 min, came to a stop and same thing, idle so low it wants to die, turned idle screw all the way in again makes no difference, verry little reaction on air fuel screw as well. Please note bike has always ran real good and strong with no idle problems. Any ideas ?????? Thanks

Even though you cleaned the carb, are you sure the pilot jet is clean... it only takes a spec of dirt to mess with the idle. Sometimes it's cheaper and easier to just replace the pilot jet.

Make sure you have a good fuel filter either on the petcock valve or in line. Debris in the gas could cause your symptoms.

"After a winters rest" and "dirty carb" go hand in hand. You cleaned it, but I am thinking not well enough or there is still some gunk in there.

Did you have fuel in the bowl over the winter? Did you have fuel in the tank over the winter?

Given the inner diameter of a pilot jet vs. a fuel line, the smaller ID orifices win.

Clean, clean and reclean. My 2008 TT-R125L sets in misery from me not really getting it as clean as it is supposed to be.

I wasn't suggesting the fuel line was clogged. If it's degrading or gunked up and releasing debris, it could cause issues in that smaller orifice.
