1989 KDX need help with fork seals!

So today I started replacing my fork seals on my 89' KDX, all was going well, I took them off the clamps, drained the oil, took out the spring. After getting the forks unassembled and empty i couldn't figure out how to get the thinner silver tube out of the thicker lower casing (this is my first time replacing seals), I took out the small rubber cap out of the bottom of the fork and saw that there's a 14mm hex hole and then inside there is also a flat head screwdriver slot.. I was confused so I didn't tamper with them anymore.. So any help at all would be great! Or just what I need to do to get the inner tube to come out so I can replace the seals and clean out all the gunk!! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Remove the circlip by the fork seals.
Get a 14mm hex bit socket and a fork damper rod holding tool or try to shove the end of a broomstick down in there, etc.
The point is to keep the damper rod from spinning as you loosen the compression damper assembly (where the 14mm hex fitting is).

IRRC, you can remove the dust seal, then the retaining clip. Next put the lower leg in a vise, careful not to crush it, use the upper (inner tube) like a slide hammer to pop out the oil seal. Replace the bushings while you are in there.

I didn't have the tube holder, i just used an impact with 14mm Allen and used short bursts. The inside tube is screwed into the valve on the bottom. I was able to tighten the same way. I would think the problem with using a broom handle would be getting debris in the fork.

Ok that makes sense! And what does the flathead screwdriver slot do?

That is the compression adjuster. LIGHTLY turn it. It is not unbreakable.
