So I took apart the stock shock on my 92 today. Aside from general grime, it's in very good shape. No leaks, smooth operation, looks good. Except the bottom out bumper is falling apart.
I have another shock like this on a different bike, I rebuilt the shock but forgot to replace the bumper.
Is there a split collar bumper you can put in so you don't have to disassemble, make a mess, get it recharged, yadyadya?
If not, what do you guys think of splitting a bumper to slide it onto the shaft, then using a clamp, band, zip tie, or something to hold in place? Worthy of consideration, bad idea, thoughts?

Shock bottom out bumper
I did that, a friend at an auto repair shop gave me some bump stops that were for struts. I cut it down and split and slid it on, it worked fine never came off. I weigh 200 so I bottom out every once in a while, works great.

Re: Shock bottom out bumper
Did you need to put a clamp of any sort on?
I'm so stoked that you said this.
