JulienD should probably consider adding captchas for new members. Perhaps for the first 25 posts for a new member would need to fill out a captcha. It would eliminate this bot spamming business..

the bots signed up a million new users, that doesn't mean passwords are compromised.

What a lot of forums do is they moderate the first post of new users (so it can take up to 24 hours for it to heal approved). Makes it easy to spot/ban bots.

Hi, guys. I saw a few very late last night and dealt with those. I deleted several users and their posts. Hopefully, Julien D can change the site to help solve this problem.
Thanks, guys.

PM me if you see any posts from a spammer. I am deleting several accounts right now.
I have a nuclear idea for members that joined the last 2 days. I just need to get Julien D's permission first.

Do the captcha's for new members 25-50 posts. My bet is on all those posts being some kinda scripted bot program(bots can't read captchas) that seeks out vulnerable forums on the web. Did you happen to check each of the spammer's IP's? and were they all different or from the same IP? If so you would be able to ban it indefinitely from accessing the site.

I vote for reCAPTCHA on the register page
btw a lot of phpBB forums seem to have been spammed these days. And phpbb.com is down.

Captcha has been busted for years, it's pretty much useless. Q&A is about the best thing to use for PHP forum registration. It's time to update the question, looks like it got shared around the spamming world. This is not the first time this has happened. Keep ya pants on, we'll get it cleaned up. New registration is disabled temporarily until I can finish cleanup and redo the spam question.
Thanks!
J.

I saw where you had joined, but your "got a kickstand" thread saved you from me deleting your account. Thanks for being "real".
Off to tidy up the member list.

Once again, "kickstands" are brought to the fore front on the site. Never would have thought they were so prized.

Yeah I'm noticing a trend...lol
And I almost didn't post it because it seemed redundant.

You can say that again.
