Ok, I am planing on riding my 93 KDX200 through the winter. Does anyone know if there will be any issues with running temps. With out a fan or thermostate bypass will the bike ever get warm enought at say 10 to 20 Degrees?
I know my KLR temps stay much steadier now that I installed a Thermo-Bob kit.
Thanks

shouldn't be an issue if you let it warm up at idle real good and go easy the 1st 5-10 min.

If temps seem too low you can always try blocking off one of the radiators. I would recommend getting one of the the stick on temp strips that you can buy at RMATV and other places now so that you can see what your normal temps are. They only cost about $15.

I read something about needing to install some type of shield around the carb. The reason being is that if the snow gets up on the carb, it starts to freeze. Any truth to this? I have never ridden in the snow, but hope to do so this winter.
Also, how does one wash the bike after a ride? If it is 30 degrees outside, do I just keep the hose in the basement, and pull it out to wash the bike? Do I then put the wet bike in the freezing cold garage? I guess I can wipe it down, but it will still be wet. No biggie?
Thoughts?

For past two years I ran the KDX in the Québec winter, no problems just BIG fun. Hard to describe how much fun it is.
Modification I use for the winter:
Trelleborg Tungsten carbide spiked front tire
Ice screw rear tire (approx 250)
Richer carburation
Light fork oil 2.5w or less
I go for rides when 5 to 20F outside.
Be sure to oil your air filter the same manner you do in the summer or Ice vapors or snow in the air will enter in the carb slide and freeze wide open. Belive me this is a heck of a feeling
Keep us informed about your project
