KDX 200 vs KX 250
Hey guys. I have just got into dirt riding and bought a kdx 200. I don't think it is going as hard as it should. My mate has a kx 250 with afew mods and leaves me for dead in a straight line. The power band on the kx is very noticable, but on my kdx it feels very restictive and the exhaust note doesn't change like on the kx. Is this just how kdx's are or is something possibly wrong with the kips or other things.
Any theorys, hints, tips and feedback will be greatly appreciated. I'm on a tight budget so any cost effective ways of getting more grunt would be awesome.
Cheers
Ian

check the kips. they may not be working right, or cloged{stiking}.
i am going to be the first to say that the kdx200 will not keep up in the straights with a kx250 no matter how good it runs....2 different bikes, for 2 different purposes........but your buddy souldnt just leave you in the dust!

Running it at 32:1 not much smoke. Have done filter and plug. Bike had been sitting around for afew years before i bough it. Smoked bad for the 1st hour or so then came right. How do you check the KIPS and reeds? Tried to find info on google about KIPS but have had little sucess.

fire up the bike, warm up, remove the slotted kips cover on the left side of the engine. when you rev it you should see the gear rotating, then as the engine slows down, it should return to the resting position.
reeds you'll have to remove the carb and inspect them.

94?
the odds are the kips valves are stripped and will need to be replaced.

I have an '89, but it's the same model from '89-'94 (E-series) what I did to ensure that the KIPS on my bike were working is remove the right side plastic cover on the cylinder and rev the bike. The shaft should slide out smoothly on higher revs and recede back to the original position once the rpm's lower. Still unsure? Turn the bike off and remove the exhaust and keep the plastic cover off. Pull the shaft in and out and look up and into the cylinder head. You should see the valves on the sides open and close. If you don't, then something is screwed up.
