Skid plates...

Post by HRDROKN »

I just wanted to throw an idea that I did not use on my build, but in retrospect I'm kinda kicking myself for not doing it.

While you are welding the motor mounts and such... add some tabs to mount a skid plate! This will be not only a clean setup, but you wont jack up your new paint or powder coat trying to fit the standard aftermarket skid plate hooks.... which I do believe are notorious for coming loose and moving around!

I had the same realization after I was done with all the welding and frame paint. I plan to do this over the winter when I've got some down time.

Other than cost, I guess this situation is one other benefit of painting vs powdercoating. I've been really happy with how the VHT fame & rollbar paint has been holding up.

I had made it for the KDX and it fit perfectly.

My solution was not the cleanest but it works very well.

You can see the plate I welded to the frame with a nut welded to it.
