Chain wear question

If I have only two teeth missing from my rear sprocket, it's still good enough, isn't it?

I mean...there are 45 other teeth..considerably more than most people have in their face....

Oh...and if I need anything, another sprocket will suffice, right?

I mean...I'm not missing any rollers on the chain or anything. I'm sure it's OK.

Way don't you go back to the trails you rode last and look for them? Set the teeth with a dab of JB and your good to go.

Just keep an extra master link and master tooth in your fanny pack, you know, just in case.

Oh, one more thing, when you are ready to change out the sprockets and chain, consider going to a belt drive system. It's worth the extra money.

Belt drive? Oh yeah. I can't see mud, rocks and junk causing ANY problems with a belt. I mean...look at Harleys! Their belts NEVER fail!!!

Master tooth? hardeeharhar!!

When the sissy-bar neighsayers (uh..SIC Inda) get up to the hundreds of thousands of miles I've got riding with one..and what it carries..and where it goes...then maybe I'll let them buy a beer outt'a that igloo cooler........

Yeah...current bikes are SOOO much moh bedder. Complete with a 45º angle on your back, room for a granola bar..and a brake master cylinder stuck in your face.

I got a sprocket hanging on the wall in the garage with 1/3 of the teeth gone. I kept it 'cause I thought it was cool.

About mid way through a long ride a couple of years ago I kept feeling this lurching sensation, like it was coming out of gear for just a second, now and then. When we stopped for a minute, I noticed a bunch of teeth missing. That bunch turned into a bunch more by the time we got back.

No problem really. It wouldn't have motored much farther, though.

CC- I'd say you got a few more rides left on it

When just less than 1/2 the teeth are missing, head for home!

Or, hey, here's a thought: carry a spare one with you in your fanny pack. When you feel like you've you got all the life out of it you're going to get, stop a do a trailside swap

My compressor, hose, and rattle gun won't fit in my fanny pack.

..and then there's the generator required to run a 2 1/2HP motor...

I could change it before next week's 200 mile ride..but that seems like such a waste of perfectly good teeth!

What's wrong with sticks and rocks?

It would be a waste of teeth. Surely each one has got to good for 4 1/2 miles each, no?

Last time I looked for a 6mm hex sided rock (8..whatever it is) I din't have much luck.

Same for sticks!

Wait a min.
How old is the sprocket, were they baby teeth?
If it was a young sprocket with baby teeth there'll be no reason to replace it,,,,,,,they'll grow back.

Speekin of learnin.....just file some new teeth into that 'ol sprocket!

Amazin what an 'enterprisin' feller can do with a file, or two...and a bit of time

Chainsaw file should be a no-go fanny-pack tool, for those of us in the know!!

CC, OK, your sissy bar is a functional one. Still looks just a lil sissy, compared to the one on my ol '83 Cm250 Custom.

Now thats a rack!
