Questions for Vapor computer owners

Questions for Vapor computer owners
I've already PM'd AZRickD on this, so now let me ask you...
1) For the power connection, did you actually connect the power lead to anything or do you just run off of the installed lithium battery in the unit? (I like Rick's idea of tapping into the light switch wiring.)
2) For the wheel sensor install, did you actually drill a hole in your brake caliper for the sensor or did you epoxy it to the caliper? (I'm nervous about drilling the caliper.)
Someone mentioned using a piece of 2"x2" aluminum angle to mount the Vapor to the upper TT. That sounds like a great idea, but I looked over my 2004 KX125 upper TT last night and there were no available mounting holes. Trail Tech sent a plastic holder that is supposed to mount the Vapor to the handlebar, but that piece of plastic looks easy to break.
Does anyone have a mounting idea other than (1) 2"x2" angle and (2) the supplied plastic piece?

I have a similar Trailtech product and it sounds as though they mount the same way. That being said, I used the old odometer mount that was on my KDX to mount the computer. I did not hook up a power source of any kind, I just used the battery. Lastly the drilling of the caliper is very simple and if you follow the directions as to the hole location you wont have any problems.

The upper triple tree (from a 2004 KX125) doesn't have any holes in it to mount 2"x2" angle or the original odometer mount.
The plastic mount provided by Trail Tech for a 7/8" handlebar doesn't push out the Vapor holder far enough past the Scotts handlebar clamp.
My plan is to get a small piece of aluminum sheet metal (3 1/2" x 4 1/4" x 1/8" thick) and mount this to the forward two holes in the Scotts handlebar clamp. I can then drill holes in the sheet metal to easily accommodate the Vapor.
I guess I'm the only one who experienced difficulty mounting a Vapor, and a Scotts stabilizer, with a KX fork conversion??

My KX TTs are circa '98 and have one solitary hole. It mounts up just fine and stays there. Fear not the tapping into aluminum, my son.
I originally had trouble connecting my Vapor to a power source on the KDX. One spot (along the right side seat rail) caused the thing to freak out in an over-voltage-like behavior. I then hooked it up near a black box in the front under the tank and got my "voop-voop" problem (do a search here). It robbed me of power throughout the band, especially up high. I then decided to go with the battery power, but the battery went dead after a few weeks.
So, I hooked it up to the wires between the light switch and the light. I connected it so that when the light was off, the Vapor was off. When on low-beam, the Vapor was on, and when on high beam, the Vapor was off.

Im kicking an old can here but I found the same problem installing my vapor.
Hooking up to any UNREGULATED power source has a freekie effect
on the RPM scale.
The only place to hook up without effecting cdi input/output is on is on
the magneto yellow wire that also powers up the headlight and tail light.
That voltage w/o the headlight on is not regulated and varys from
20 to +100 bolts ac. The Vapor tach circuit is obviously not internally shielded very well and ac ripple is picked up through the tach circuit
and will almost double the rpm reading and even give an RPM reading with the tach pick up unhooked. I tried
using a couple diodes on the power leads to the Vapor which changed
the ac to dc power but still had excessive ac ripple.
Hooking into the headlight circuit after the switch works fine due to the
lights and regulator absorbing the peak RF and lowering the voltage
only while the lights are on.
Also the Vapor needs set on X2 for pulses per revolution which is crazy.
I picked this up also using a digital advance timing light set for 2 stroke setting the timing. Said my idle was at 2400 rpm and I thought my light
was screwed up.
It all good garage fun when you can't ride

I remember wondering about this install from AZRick's problems.
Where does the unit GET the tach signal from?
Nothing crazy about X2 settings. The thing needs to work on 4-strokes, too, right? 2-smokes fire every 360º..4-strokes every 720º (single cylinder machines).

The tach signal comes from a wire you can wrap around the plug wire or
the directions SAYS you can hook up on the ground side of coil.
I chose the less intrusive.
Guess your right about nothing crazy about the 2X if they use the 4 stroke
as the base (1X).
The trail tech is purchased bike specific but i'm sure the electronics are pretty uniform across manufactures.
There is also a .5X setting which I suppose would be for a twin cylinder that uses a single coil pack(not sure if they use em on bikes) or a rotary engine.

Thanks Mike. That's what I was looking for. My GPS does tell me running time; even breaks it down to time moving and time standing still. I'm not concerned with rpm and I have a temperature sticker I put on my cylinder and radiator.

I have an older digatron that just has CHT,EGT,RPM that I've been thinking about installing on the bike. Not that I'm ever worried about sqeezing every ounce of top-end HP out of the thing....Which is about all an EGT is good for....No need for plug chops.

Idling is abt 2Krpm
Valve seems to kick in abt 6Krpm and redline/rev cut abt 9Krpm
am I missing something?...if I've set to 2X according, wat shld be the correct reading for valve opening and rev cut?
Also, hook up the temperature sensor to my radiator but nvr pick up any reading.....any idea wat could had went wrong?
Btw, wat kinda mileage you guys are getting per full tank of petrol?
Lastly....simply love the display and white back light....its nice when riding at nite now

reset the unit today and now the temperature reading is normal...tried changing the PPR to 2X and the idling is like 800-1000rpm and my bike hardly rev across 4K rpm...dun seems rite so revert back to 1X
My backlight is on when my headlight is on....everything else will work whether headlight on/off...temp, speed, rpm, distance
