Chain rubbing on case

Hi guys,

Here is my problem- I changed my CS sprocket to a 12 tooth cheapy while keeping the rear at 47 teeth to test the ratio.
When I removed the 12 tooth sprocket I noticed the bottom of my stock O-ring chain was rubbing on the case .
Has anyone experienced this with cheap sprockets before or is there something I am missing?

I think I will move to a 13:50 if I can't get this figured out.

I think its in the manufacturing of the sprockets I have a 13 t did the same. the maker was Primary drive sprockets and its a cheep one .

It's not the number of teeth that is the problem.

I should have at least spent the extra $10 on a Sunstar. I'll pick one up this weekend and try it out. Thanks.

I don't KNOW what the interference problem is..maybe it's an overweight chain. Heck...maybe the master link is goobered!

I don't even know what 'the bottom' of a chain is. What's on the top ON the top is on the bottom ON the bottom.

But I know that the count of 12 is not the problem.

I recall using a PrimaryDrive sprocket before (12T) and not having that problem.

I know that the cheep CSS I have tried generally don't fit for diddle on the splines. VERY wonky (sloppy). Renthal is the only brand I've used that fits half-way decent. I've had trouble getting a 12T Renthal CSS in the past.......

Good point. This may not help any but I am reffering to the interior portion of the chain closest to the case and above the drive shaft. It is the bottom corner of "that" part of the chain that is rubbing against a shoulder on the case. I dont have any pictures handy, but it is so minimal that if I were to step up to a 13 tooth of the same brand/size it would not rub. The sprocket was a generic one sold by Parts Canada and it is stamped YAMAHA on the package!
It fits but obviously not that well.

Some Yamahas (Warrior for example) use the same CSS.

Your notice of something 'minimal' may well have completely escaped my notice.

So...I take back everything I said. My bike may indeed show the same mark..but it is indeed minimal. Well, to the point nothing bad has come from it.

I've run a 12T CSS for just about the bike's whole life.
