Re: Kips sub shaft o-ring
I dont see HNBR available as option for X-rings from Mcmaster. Just silicone, Buna, and Viton.
So i guess Viton? That's the part number Kawibunga lists in that quote

Re: Kips sub shaft o-ring
That sounds good to me! I'll pay 55% of that or whatever is best to round up to if you will receive the order and ship me 10 of them... Kawibunga perhaps could use some as well as SlickNick, although I believe Nick is in Canada? It might be best for him to source them up there.

Re: Kips sub shaft o-ring
Yeah, from McMaster - I'd go with Viton as first choice, Buna a second as that's all they have, they don't have HNBR, But my guess is BUNA will work fine.
And in Canada you need a corporate account to order from McMaster - but we got one so I had ordered my supply on a work order, so I have a bunch of spares if slicknick wants to try them out, a yeah he's located here in Calgary too, so would not a be a problem at all to sort that out. Hoping to have the modified parts in hand on Wednesday this week.....

Re: Kips sub shaft o-ring
Order placed for 50 Viton X rings. Chuck, I still have your mailing address from our email exchange about the 5x8 silicone o-rings. I'll put a dozen of the X-rings in an envelope and post 'em over to ya asap.
If anyone else in the states wants a few, just drop me a line and we'll work it out.

Re: Kips sub shaft o-ring
Curious how you make out here. I brought the shaft to my machinist and he said it was so hard that he didn’t think he would be able to cut it without potentially breaking the cutter and ruining the piece. We are considering a lathe-based grinding operation with a dremel instead…

He thinks he can do it with a good carbide cutter but will keep you posted........jamiethegiraffe wrote: 03:20 pm Mar 20 2026Curious how you make out here. I had not considered the hardness of the shaft!Kawibunga wrote: 03:50 pm Mar 20 2026He thinks he can do it with a good carbide cutter but will keep you posted........jamiethegiraffe wrote: 03:20 pm Mar 20 2026Curious how you make out here. I'll have to look for a real small carbide cutter, as most of what I have is tool steel or too large for that tiny cut.
I wonder how deep the hardened surface treatment goes in these parts? That's another thing I had not considered.
