1993 usd fork, Help Needed!

Post by CCCC69 »

Need to change fork seals on my bike (1993 KDX200) but unfortunately information is limited on these forks so i have a few questions

What is the proper oil weight from factory 5 or 10?

oil level I see 140mm from the top on the standard forks but not seeing anything for the USD's online

Lastly, when separating the forks is it possible to separate the uppers from the lowers without removing the compression valve which requires the special holder tool? Meaning can I just unscrew the top cap, pull the spring out and pull the forks apart?

Any insights are appreciated!!

Kayaba01, equivalent to 5wt for the most part. For the 93-94 USD, standard fork oil level is 80 ± 2 mm with the fork spring removed and the fork fully compressed. You do not need to remove the compression valve to separate the fork tubes, just pull back the fork seals, remove the big circlip, and slide hammer them apart. The service manual and the cyclepedia manual have all the information you need for the 93 USDs.
