UFO reproduction KDX headlights?

Post by Chuck78 »

Someone elsewhere posted that they finally tracked down a UFO KDX headlight, from SPAIN, for $150... I wondered why they didn't go direct through UFO, and they said they couldn't find them anywhere in the USA...

Looking at the UFO website, they no longer show a KDX reproduction headlight, at all, but very oddly, they show what looks like a black or white plastic KDX headlight, darn near the exact shape as the '95-'06 KDX, advertised as a KTM headlight?!?! What...?!?

https://us.ufoplast.com/11-replica.../k ... x-200/1997

Jason Jacobson, who is running the custom order KDX purple shrouds ordering and resale on ebay and Marketplace, and now nearly all KDX plastics in purple, has ordered the KDX headlights in purple on his last batch pre-tarriffs, from UFO, and has those in stock, so UFO of course still have the molds.

I just found it odd that UFO is selling what looks to be a white and black version(s) of the KDX headlight, not for KDX's, but advertised as KTM? Without having an exact identical photo angle for side by side comparison, this looks to be the KDX headlight shroud/faring surround nearly exactingly...right?

UFO has been making that headlight for 15-20 years. Its called the "Ghibli" model, or at least it was called that 15 years ago. I've got a few in my parts stash actually. It's the same as the OEM KDX light but has rubber mounts for the forks instead of solid mounting brackets.

Yes, I'm just quite surprised that they no longer offer it in green and no longer list it for the KDX fitment, yet it literally appears to be a near exact copy of the OEM KDX headlight, exact same stylings. Odd that they list it for KTM in white, but don't even list a white version for the KDX, when it IS a KDX headlight...

The output of the oddball bulbs in the UFO versions is a bit disappointing, as is the lack of aftermarket LED bulbs in that type of socket format, but one can spend $$$ and retrofit a rectangular Baja Designs LED into it in place of the whole reflector assembly.

It'd likely be cheaper to find an OEM Kawasaki KDX version and get a $50 aftermarket LED that fits the H6M / T19 / P15D headlight socket of the 1990-2006 KDX headlight reflector lens assembly, but that Baja Designs LED array is quite impressively bright for off-road riding though! Not for dual sports though as I don't believe it has a high/low beam, but I could be wrong.
