1. I'm making my 2000 KDX200H street legal and trying to find a Japanese OE speedo that will replace the trip meter. I reckon any Japanese bike with 21" front wheel would have compatible speedo gears and threads, but i'm not certain?
I was looking at Yamaha XT or TW, and then i saw this post which looks exactly like what I need... any idea what it is?

From what I can tell, that is NOT a Kawasaki speedo, not even the SR. So if it worked for him, i might grab a Yamaha one off ebay and see if it fits.
Not interested in TrailTech or anything electronic/aftermarket. Thanks.

Re: OE Analog Speedo for KDX200H?
That particular speedo is graduated in kilometers; is that what you want?
Back in the days of time keeping enduros, the hot set up was a VDO speedometer with a trip odometer that was resettable forwards and back in 10ths of a mile. Before the VDOs were available, riders used a Harley Big Twin speedo. These had resettable trip odometers too.
Due changes in wheel diameter, gear ratios, etc., these were not always accurate, or matched the odometer of the layout crew's bike. Of course the wrong ratios would affect the speed reading too. For the VDO speedo, you counted the number of turns of your speedo drive cable over a certain distance. IIRC this was 52 feet 8 inches. You submitted this information when you ordered your VDO and it came geared accordingly.
Another way to compensate for these errors was a small Stewart Warner correction gear box spliced into the speedo drive cable. Last time I was researching this subject I learned these gearboxes were no longer available from Stewart Warner but learned they were available from a company, IIRC in Canada, called RECORD INDUSTRIES. I printed out their catalog, but can't lay my hands on it right now. When I run across it, I will call up this post and post their contact info.
My KDX is set up with both the OEM trip odometer and a Trail Tech vapor electronic. This gives me the best of both worlds.
Hope this is helpful information.

If funds allow just order an original SR Speedo cluster from the Japanese auction websites, you will pay extra but make it back up in resale value
