83 kdx250 running rich issue

Post by daveovington »

So I have an 83 kdx250 and I've just spent alot of time on the clutch and finally got it to where it's actually working but now I have an issue that I believe is a rich condition. I reset my float height which seems to have made it a bit better but still doesn't have the giddyup that it should. It sounds great in neutral when I snap the throttle but when I put it in gear it grabs right away in 1st gear until I snap the throttle and it just kinda bogs and smokes more than it should and just doesn't pull how it should. One thing I was wondering that might have something to do with it, and I feel stupid for trying it before, but there's no way to take the baffle out of the tail pipe so I have ran a large screw driver and tried scraping it out from both ends and tapped the sides with a mallet and got a bunch of **** to fall out but I'm wondering I'd I plugged that up some how. Anyway, that's alotof information I know but I figure the more I include then the better help i can get with it. Any help would be much appreciated 🙏
Don't mind my dumb questions, my other bike is a honda :shh: lmao 🤣 😂

Exhaust blockage is possible. You can take it off and toss it in the campfire to burn most of it out. It's more likely you need to visit the jetting section and figure out how to sort your main and pilot jets. There are some good guides in there and a lot of info from other users experience. Good luck and happy wrenching!
