kdx220sr cylinder head

Post by kdxdazz »

i understnad there is a segment on kdxrider for the SR model but posting on here as looking for information and comparisons to the kdx220r cylinder head, i can't see that the SR cylinder has been talked about on the internet so this video might be of interest to some. if anybody can share squish band width, clearance and CC so i can continue my steep learning curve, cheers

Immediately I notice is has a significantly wider squish band area for peak power at lower RPM vs a standard 220R head. More low end torque less rev out. I now hear you talking about squish and volume in the vid. Your RB SR head is about the same as any other "RB'd" SR head.

The squish height on the SR stock head looks tighter than a 220R, but I can't really tell in the video. I'll watch the 2nd half later.

@kdxdazz,
I came here again via a search, as I've got a 220SR swingarm coming from Japan, and can save some money on shipping on additional items, so I'm probably getting a 220SR head as well.
I noticed as well that the squish band clearance appears significantly tighter on the 220B / 220SR head vs the lazy and relatively ineffective 220A / 220R head's larger squish band clearance.

My RB heads give excellent torque, but the 220SR head certainly does look appealing now.

I'm wondering now if you ever did a cc measurement test on the RB'd 220SR head, as it looks like the dome was left alone aside from cutting the squish band width back to his standard spec.
Your video says the SR head measures 24cc (24mL).
I'll pick up a syringe and plexiglass scrap later this month and check my heads here as well.

I should have checked cylinder part numbers as well, but I'd imagine the SR vs R models likely have different porting, but not confirmed. Do you know off the top of your head?

Due to the tighter squish clearance and wider squish band vs stock & RB versions, I believe I'll go ahead and order one from http://auctions.yahoo.co.jp now.

I need a large 50mL liquids (oral?) syringe like that to measure with still. I was looking a while ago at getting a graduated burette with valve as I was uncertain the volume range I'd need, but I see now that a large 50mL fluids (oral?) syringe will do it.

I can't really do any comparisons with my RB cylinder head, it's been skimmed so many times by incompetent machinists here that it's basically junk, all my riding is at idle or a bit above so I can't imagine any cylinder head design will be any better than a stock SR cylinder head, I set my squish at about 1.5mm using copper head gaskets, maybe tighter is better but really Im just after smooth low end power,
been getting the keihin pe28 dialled in with my wideband 02 Sensor and must say I am very impressed by this small carb
I'm going to put together a few jetting myth.videos using the O2 sensor as proof of being a myth and my theory on the clutch rattle being caused by poor jetting is starting to look more like fact than theory now, the better I get my jetting dialed in the less clutch rattle there is
The SR cylinder and R cylinder have different part numbers but I think this is just because of bolt on studs for the exhaust
Now I realise how great the wideband O2 sensor is for tuning I will try again to get the lectron dialed in, been following a guy called Patrick garage on YouTube and he shows how to grind the metering rod to suit
