Hello all, just picked up a 99 kdx200, and pretty much have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to two stokes . It starts first kick, which I assume is good. I've only let it idle for a few at this point, and noticed it drips oil from the exhaust joints, which the PO said was normal? It seems to be in decent shape, though the CR500 forks are binding, both during compression and rebound.
All in all, the bike needs a little bit of work but it doesn't seem like anything major.

Oil leaking (spooge) from the pipe joints or the outlet is usually an indication of rich jetting if all of the joints are sealed as they should be and the silencer packing is in good shape. Might want to check out the jetting guide on the forum.

Forks might just need a rebuild? I never mess with suspension stuff, I always take it to a local guy.

Could be those fork tubes are bolted down too tight. Check the torque on bolts of the triple tree that holds the forks tubes from sliding, upper and lower. I use a torque wrench when adjusting my USD's and use the owners manual specs, sometimes I even back that off a pound.

Thanks guys, I ended up putting the stock forks back on as when I tried to pull the forks off I realized the axle was siezed to the left fork . Took it for a spin, bogged in power and and eventually died. After a few minutes it started back up, so I pulled the petcock and I'm actually impressed the bike ran. Petcock is beyond a rebuild so another is in the way.

Once you get the axle free, there is a specific procedure for making sure the Forks are not binging when you remount the wheel. It's in the Cyclepedia manual anyway. Also be sure to use a torque wrench when clamping the Forks in the triple clamps. Easy to overtighten and cause binding.
