Been riding a KDX since 1999. I currently own a 2003 KDX 220. (purchased new). I just do some casual riding. Sometimes the Mark Twain forest on the easy stuff. I'm old.

Glad to have found this place.

Welcome to KDXrider. Is your 220 running a stock piston? There are many threads on here of the stock piston breaking off the skirt. Just want to make you aware of that issue before it happens to you.

X2 on what Dekon said about the piston. It doesn't matter how hard or easy you ride the bike, its eventually going to happen.

Any aftermarket piston, from a reliable manufacturer, purchased from a reliable reseller will do. Wiessco, pro X and something else are all revered. Just don't order unbranded junk off of ebay.

I thought Pro-X are OEM rebranded, so you might to avoid those. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the welcome.

OK, I have a Wiseco piston & top end kit on the way. I already have it apart, and it looks good. Cylinder & stock piston look good. No damage, scratches, rust or pitting. I always used Amsoil in it. It could be the fact it has been inside most of it's life. I took it apart & greased everything I could when I first bought it. I guess I am giving my kdx a 14 year face lift.

My plan is to clean everything, including the new piston. Measure ring gap, piston & bore. I'll give the cylinder a scotch bright hone . Is red OK?

I already leaned something here!
I have read on this site about clocking the circlips in the piston. 6 or 12. I have never heard this before. How do you guys clock the circlips?
