1983 kdx250 clutch plates and friction plates

1983 kdx250 clutch plates and friction plates
Hi everyone, i am just finishing up a bottom end rebuild on my 1983 kdx250. My question is, how many friction plates and clutch plates belong in the transmission? The reason i am asking is because when i assemble the entire clutch the top plate sits below the edge of the clutch basket and the clutch wont disengage. I am stumpped, and have taken it off twice try7ng to figure it out. Any sort of input woukd be greatly appreciated.

Look on the parts diagrams. Several stores should have them.
