Hello everyone, Just bought a 2003 KDX 220 Love my 2 strokes! I'm looking at doing some green laning and enduros.
One question I have to begin with is I want to fit some lights. Any one know what colour the live/neg is?
It has a silver box which I believe is cdi? and another box with wires. Would this be for the lighting circuit?
welcome aboard
your 220 should have come with lights, so chances are MOST of the wiring is still in there
I would check under the seat for the tail light wiring, and under the tank for the headlight
I don't remember the tail light wire off hand, but on the head light, yellow is the hot lead

Thanks for the reply bang on the money....a red wire and a yellow tucked under the tank. The rear looks like red and a yellow/black one. All I need to do now is fit a brake light switch....any ideas?
You can use a pressure switch that replaces the banjo bolt or under the right cover should be a bracket for a machnical switch that you will need to connect to the peddle with a spring. Pressure switch it the way to go IMHO.
I run two brake light switches on my KDX
one is the pressure switch mentioned about, that replaces the banjo bolt on the front brake lever
the other is a the mechanical switch, mounted to the position mentioned above, and activated by a spring attached to the rear brake pedal

1 Yellow wire to light switch, then wire to headlight. Red wire straight to headlight.
2 Sice banjo bolt wire into rear light live and Earth the other wire from banjo bolt
correct
but when you splice the live wire to the rear, one will still go to the "dim" side of the bulb
the other will run through a switch to the "bright" side of the bulb
did anyone mention you need to buy a new socket in order to run a dual filament bulb ?
I believe the number is 1157
I bought a socket for my KDX on ebay for less then a dollar

I just wanted to say something about those banjo bolt switches...THEY ARE AWESOME! lol I've replaced malfunctioning factory manual brake like switches on my quad and quite a few of my buddy's quads with no issues. They work great.
Also, figured this wiring diagram may help, I used it trying to figure out some problems with my old 200:
