Pro-Circuit vs FMF Perfomance pipes / KDX 200

Post by Reyes#520 »

KDX Comrades,
Bought a 1990 KDX200 and it came with a Pro-Circuit Pipe and the stock silencer , The pipe and silencer were coated with residue so I bought a FMF silencer/sa and burned out the crud inside the pipe and bam! " It ran well ". Went riding that weekend near the Salton sea area and after 7hrs of riding and 140 mi. I hit a rock on the way back to the truck that crumpled the PC Pipe (right behind the front tire) This week I purchased the FMF gnarly torque pipe thinking it would be the same performance type pipe .After installation and firing it up, it sounded different! took it for a spin in the neighborhood & the bottom end came ALIVE ! it feels like the bike has been going to the Gym and working out. We're headed out to the desert for a ride near Chiriaco Summit ca.(BLM area) and I'll be looking for some hills to climb and some Goat Trails to follow. Note: FMF is the way to go time and time again with my modern bikes or vintage bike the performance is a Notch above the competition...I'm just a regular Joe that enjoys an edge on the next guy

1990 KDX - Kenda Parker DT tire front , Pirelli MT43 trials tire rear , K&N airfilter,Boyesen stage II reeds, Klotz super tech 2-stroke oil w/100 octane fuel,FMF gnarly torque pipe w/ FMF S/A, IMS super pegs, Moose High Pressure radiator cap & seat strap (for lifting) , Fine line suspension mods for 215lb ground pounder, More to follow

The Gnarly is a sweet pipe! Takes a little off the top end ,but the bottom and mid more then makes up for it. A Gnarly pipe made my MX bike a woods machine!

I didn't know FMF made a Gnarly for an e-series. I looked everywhere and can only find FMF Fatty (not gnarly or desert) that says it will fit a '89-94 e-series. Are you sure it isn't the FMF Fatty your running?

I was thinking the same thing. Anyone know if the Gnarly pipe does fits the E-series? I know lots of people that recommend it.

There isn't a Gnarly for the E-series. Only the Fatty. The only other pipe available readily is made by DG. If your really lucky, you might be able to find an old PC pipe.

Thanks, just confirming. Not that I have anything against the Fatty (haven't used either), I just know lots of people that recommend the Gnarly and I'm in the market for a new pipe soon.

Any chance a new pipe of Brand A outperformed an old pipe from Brand B?

BTW: I saw a TV movie on the Salton Sea. That was very interesting.

Also, FMF may or may not have made a Gnarly years ago for the E models, but the only version now is the Fatty.

EDIT: wrong info/got confused
Thank you for participating on kdxrider.net. :bravo:

For what it's worth, the gnarly and the fatty are the same. Just the gnarly is reinforced for woods.
