Idle Speed adjusment?!?!?!

Post by 203BikeLifeCHiNO »

Hey everyone so I have just finished having the cylinder replated and rebuilding the top and bottom end on my kdx along with installing new kips valves from BDK. I have broken in the engine over the past two days and have been having a problem with my idle speed, I have adjusted the air/ fuel mixture 1.5 turns out the bike runs mint but will not idle on it's own... I let the engine warm up fully and then tried to make adjustments to the idle but no matter how much or which direction I turn the idle speed screw in it has no affect on the idle speed at all. I started off turning it in (clock wise) small 1/4-1/2 turns and blipping the throttle after adjustments but nothing until I got to the point where I had the screw all the way in and had no change in idle so I it backed out and it still did nothing and the bike just dies out. I cleaned the carb and jetts out before installing the carb after the engine rebuild and all seemed fine, the carb is jetted fine I believe it has a 45 pilot jet and 155 main. Any help or suggestions would be awesome never had this problem with a carb before.

Ok well thanks that's good to know, do you think I should adjust my air mixture screw to run more lean? Running rich on both jetts shouldn't stop the idle speed screw from adjusting the idle when I turn it though? Anyone know what the problem could be?

Yes it should still idle with those jets. Did you soak the carb, by any chance? The jet block gasket leaking is a common problem. The rubber in that gasket does not seem to like solvents.

Nope I didn't soak the carb in anything.

Could be that the Throttle Needle is not setting down all the way, unscrew the needle/cap on the top of the carb and check for any obstructions and have a look at which notch the needle clip is in.
