1984 KDX 200 shifter leak

Post by linny »

It Seems the shifter shaft on my gear change mechanism has a leak coming out of where the collar goes into the case. After looking at this diagram http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/K ... parts.html it appears that there is no rubber seal to replace, and only a collar. If that is the case, I will most likely also use a small coat of RTV on a reinstall but wanted some info from anyone who has done this already. Do I have to split cases to replace this?

42049c Can be removed without splitting the cases. Drill or punch a couple of small holes and screw in a self tapper, pull out with mole grips.

Not on a kdx, but on a KTM and Yamaha Output shaft seal.

92049C?

I have pulled one before without splitting the cases. I can not remember how I did it, but I know I just pried it out.
