Kick start problems!

Post by Hail seizure »

Hi everyone, having problems with my 1988 C3 engine rebuild. When I fit the clutch side cover the kickstart starts to 'slip' when
you kick it over. If you loosen the cover a bit and pull it very slightly away the kickstart works properly.
Also I think a washer may be missing, the one that fits on after the plastic spring guide.
Could that be the problem? Any advice welcome please!

your plastic spring guide has a notch in it that has to line up with the spring. leave the plastic part out and tighten things up and see if that works. You do need that plastic part after you test with out it

I removed the plastic part and it's now working!!!!!!!!!!
Is it safe to use bike without the plastic guide?
What is the original problem then, the guide or the spring?
Or both?

Thanks for the advice!

I would not run it with out it. Your spring will break sooner. Just make sure the slot cut on the nylon spacer lines up with the hole the spring goes in to the shaft
