Clutch basket Alternatives.

Post by kdx87 »

Would anyone happen to know any alternatives for a clutch basket as mine is driving me crazy, it does not disengage at the lights and wants to walk forward and then wont engage completely when running so i hit up top were the power is and it breaks free and slip, ive checked all my plates and springs and everything is fine and within spec?

Cheers.

Have you tried filing it, or buying a used basket off ebay and hoping for it to last for a while?

Here's what a notched, heavily worn basket looks like:

javaman, I don't think a 1995+ basket is going to work in an 87, but I am not sure.

Jesus, Not quite that bad. however i changed the oil today with silkolene 10w-40 took it around and to my surprise the clutch had much less slipping. Still slips however less than before. then i went home let it cool, took it out for another ride and all of a sudden its as if im riding an automatic it's horrible, half throttle and it slips violently. i checked on the back of the bottle and it says for both transmissions and engine. Any ideas?

Any chance you missed a washer, got parts out of order or tightened to wrong torque spec?

Ill give everything a run down tomorrow, the part that holds the plates down has kx125 stamped onto it and the springs are oversize. everything seems to be there. can tightening down the springs to tight cause slippage? if so why?

It is a long shot, but you might be able to find a more readily available basket that will fit the clutch gear. For the H series engines, I found that a YZ 125 basket will bolt on with a little machine work.

Check to be sure the center nut on the basket is still tight.

Clutch lever gets tight, then frees up. This is caused by the basket sliding on the shaft.
