Hey guys, ive just gotten back on the dirt after a few years and what better to buy than another kdx200!!!

I have previously had a few kdx250 but this time i diddnt want such a heavy old girl.....
So i picked up a siezed 97 200 for $500 bucks it had a few nice bolt ons, fmf chamber and silencer, jetted carb, Alloy bar bushes but thats about where the nice stopped!

Here it is when i got it, pretty rough and un-loved oh yeah and SEZIED!


I tore it down and found out it was toast!
I decided to sell it and find anotherone, but when i advertised it a guy offered me a motor ans spares for $200 so i grabbed that.

I was stoked, the guy turnrd up with basically a whole bike minus frame and wheels!
He ha a full rebuild done on the bike, rode for ten hours then the frame snapped so he biffed the frame and kept the rest to make a go cart with.... A year later he gave up and sold it to me.

So i have no started a ground up rebuild......

Fresh black frame.


Pretty new rads and hoses


Shortened and repacked silencer


(Yoshi sticker left over from my z1100)

Frame cut down for a kx125 rear fender


It dosent lign up as nice as a maier one does but a third the price!

More bits to powder coat

And a nice set of 01 KX125 forks to go on too

New plastics on order ans she'll be ready to ride soon.....

Hi welcome, to the forum. Nice project, looking foward to see the finished product. I wish i could get down there to do some riding, the tempeture up here has been consistently below freezing since november with over a foot of snow on the ground. I cant take it much longer

im happy with how its comming along too,
The wheels are getting powdercoated black now
And the plastics cant be too far away, i also scored a
Pro taper top clamp for the kx forks yesterday so i can use my bolt on risers and
i wont need to use those stupid Adaptors to fit the fat bars.

i think its actually
off a 125sx but the offset and spacing works!




Big fat pegs are on.


And a new gripper cover





Next on the list is a v force reed block!

As far as the fork conversion goes it is working out to be almost a bolt up affair....
The lower bearings are the same, so instead of pressing the stems i did some bearing reasearch
And found one that is the same O.D as the kdx and 2mm smaller I.D than the KX, so i can turn the KX stem down 1mm in diamiter before i hit the thread and the other 1mm ill take off the I.D of the bearing
Other than that i need to extend the steering stops a bit and bolt it up.

I got the compleate KX front end, wheel, axle, calliper, forks and triples for $60!!!!
The guy said they extend too far and you can hear the spring jumping around......
I was hopefull that the fork cap had come undone and took a gamble....
Turns out i was right! And the thread in the cap is even ok.

Everything got a healthy coating of grease, i have not done the kinkage bearings coz ther r not bad at all

Also got the KX forks serviced just need to throw some oil in them!

I spent some time tuning the rebound and comp, both in the forks and shock for my weight and cant wait to get out and fine tune it

Could I have a top view of your fender. My frame was cut too and it is horrible. There is no place to grab the bike to lift it.

I did this for my son's 85, but used an old tie down. Works great!

Small update, i have a beautifull stainless kick stand to bolt to my bike now, weighs a lot less than the old steel one!!!!!


Made by a local guy, he just happened to want a standard front end and i defiantly! Wanted this

Is that an After Market kick stand off of something, or did he make that? If he made it, you should grind him about how much he would charge for 1/2 dozen or so. I know that, if they weren't to much $$, I'd buy 3.

Ok bit of an update guys, got my wheels back


They are on and the bike looks fucken awesome!!!!!




A bit of an issue with my front wheel spacers, i dint think i got the correct ones with the front end, but i just need to grind one down a bit.

The final job is to weld and re drill my brake lever and then its time to ride!
