found a missing important part - where do you wire in a voltage regulator?
this looks like it needs to plug into something - but when I took off the tank, I didn't see anything to plug into ??
and where is the OEM mounting location?
finally put a headlight and taillight on the kdx...connected it to the yellow wire off the bike...and both lights pop...completely forgot I needed it, haha

the connector to that voltage regular should look very similar to the one on there, a white 2 wire block
pull the seat off and it should be coming out of the wiring harness on the right hand side of the bike, just ahead or right next to the air filter box

from the looks of the voltage regulator its an early E, most likely a 1990 model

'89's never came with a voltage regulator. Maybe that is why you can't find a plug for it.
As for a mounting location, I believe they were mounted on top of the airbox lid.
Great design on Kawasaki's part omitting this from the '89's. If one bulbs blows, the other gets to much voltage and blows at the same time.

on the H models the blk/yellow regulator wire goes to the frame ground, and the brown regulator wire goes to the "hot" red wire that goes to the lights.

thanks for the replies!
bike is a 1990 model - and I did not see any plugs near the airbox at all...the only "spare" wire I have is a yellow wire coming out of the harness
Also - there is no airbox lid...which makes sense - don't voltage regulators put out heat, and don't they need to be grounded to the frame?
Can't I just mount the regulator the frame, clip the connector, and put the regulator inline with the yellow wire?

Is the wiring harness that runs to the lights gone? If you trace the headlight or taillight wires they should eventually lead to the VR plug or it's remains. No problem splicing the wires, but if you get them backward or improperly grounded there's a very good chance of instantly frying your lighting coil.

wiring harness is gone...I had to run my own to the head and taillight
surprisngly, I couldn't find any replacement 90-94 harnesses on fleabay either
in that case, why don't I get any old regulator?

I have an '89 and added a VR to it. I think mine was from Trail Tech. I mounted it to the frame up under the tank because the wires were to short and it wouldn't reach the top of the air box.

relatively inexpensive too...only about twenty five bucks
that, and a brake light switch is all she's getting
now that it's street legal...would the range on the bike be enough for LA Barstow to Vegas for 2015?
