Hi everyone, I am new to the Forum and have a 1988 KDX200 C3 model.
I have a few questions if you don't mind.
What brake horsepower has the bike got?
Also the bike is 'hunting' i.e. when you slow down for a corner
and shut the throttle, the engine does not slow down to idle
straight away but 'pulses' and slows down eventually.
Anyone know what this could be?
The engine runs superb everywhere else and has loads of power.
It starts 1st or 2nd kick every time, but you have to get the kicker in
the 'right' position or it seems to slip?
Thanks Mike.

Sounds like you could do with adjusting your carb a bit and the kick start problem is worn teeth on your kick start mech there both simple jobs to do I'm sure the standard setting for the air screw on the carb is 1 and a half turns out you could start by checking that

Hi bud & welcome to the mad house!....your kdx probably kicks out around the 30hp mark give or take, the kicker slip is probably just down to the kickstart gear engaging..mine does it from time to time..as for the `hunting` that to me just sounds like the typical 2 stroke engine when you shut the throttle off down hill etc...4 strokes have engine braking in that department so don't do it unless they are running lean...they just pop & bang!

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have set the idle screw as per the manual which is approx. 1.5 turns out.
The hunting I describe is not normal 2 stroke behaviour as I have a Suzuki RM125 motocrosser which
behaves normally. Maybe the carb needs a stripdown?
As for power, only 25-30bhp, really? My bike feels much more powerful than that, it's as quick, if not
quicker than the RM! Perhaps it's been tuned, I know it's running a PE175 ignition system.
Cheers Mike.

It could be a possible air leak at the reed cage gasket or ignition side crank seal. They could cause a hanging idle. Just a thought.

Re: New Member says Hi and a few Qs
I'd bet it's the crank seal... pretty common on these older bikes. But check for other leaks first since you need to split the cases to replace the seal...and if you do need to get in there, replace the crank bearings, clutch side seal, and output shaft seal too.
