Killed cylinder/head/piston... Need new one...

Post by Bob H »

Ok, first, if someone has a cylinder/jug/head, I need a new one ASAP. We are going on a big ride next weekend,(memorial day) and I am SOL...
I'd like to limit the pocketbook damage the best I can. Anyways, here was the fun that led to the self destruction.:

We went up to Hidden Falls just West of Austin TX for some fun. We had been riding all morning and just after lunch we started on some of the 4x4 trails- we came backwards down one called wet-n-wild, a level 5 4x4 trail. Not hard at all as it was a small creek that was mostly dry save some wet spots from the day before. WELL... The LAST "hole" looked the same and I was in the lead- I dove in, and figured out quickly it was a lot deeper... Only about 3.5 ft, but that puts nearly the seat under. Killed the motor fast and we towed it back. Tore it apart to find sludge everywhere. All 4 of us slaved pouring gas down, flushing/etc and we got everything out- flushed the gearbox, etc... Reassembled- started first kick.
Of note, one of the c-clips was a little bent and it gave me pause, but apparently not enough....
Out for the last ride, 5 min in it dies. Post mortem at home showed one c-clip let go, tore up my already overbored and lined cylinder,(oh, new Wiesco 2mm piston that week.... ).
Piston, head and cylinder toast. Everything else is good.

So, I need a piston, head and cylinder ASAP. Any ideas? eBay has a cylinder for over $200, heads for $50 and pistons are only new at $90-120 each. I'm not ready to drop $350-400 to get this running, like I just did last week. I am more than happy with a slightly worn piston/etc to get me through the weekend.
Ideas? Charity? Pity?

Sorry to hear of your situation.

I have a broken scaphoid (wrist bone), so I can hardly hold a wrench, much less turn it.

If you were local, I would hand the wrench to you and let you take one of mine apart.

Good luck. Maybe someone can help out.
Thank you for participating on kdxrider.net. :bravo:

Thanks- I'll actually be going through you way in two weeks on my way to North Carolina for a change of station...
I'm going to call a eBay salvage company in CA that has a whole motor,(two auctions). I don't know if they can get it to me in time though...

If I could find one down here in S. Texas. Only 1 e series for sale w/in 200 miles and it is over $1000. I am moving in two weeks, so taking a second bike with me to part out later is not an option unfortunately.
