need engine ID help kh1dx200 EE018098
I just picked up a kdx 200 and need to get an intake manifold/carb holder. It's in rough shape and I'm trying to get parts for it. Previous owner said it's a 92 frame with a 98 motor. I found the following number on the motor but can't find any useful information on Google. Does anyone know how to decipher the numbers?
kh1dx200
EE018098
Thanks!

The same part will work on either bike anyway, so it really doesn't matter in this case. If you want to share a pic, we can tell you for sure if you have an e motor, h bike, or e/e or h/h or what. FYI, the watercooled 200 only changed once, and that was in 95. So 89-94 are identical, and 95-2006 are identical. 89-94 share a few similar parts with 95+, but have some major differences as well.

I'll gladly post a pic so I can solve this puzzle. I'll look in the faq to find out how to post pictures.
Thanks!

For pics, upload to photobucket or another hosting service, and paste the img code to your post here. Good luck!

That is an E bike and motor. E = 89-94.

Re: need engine ID help kh1dx200 EE018098
Thanks very much! The guy I bought it from said it was a 92 bike with a 98 motor. That's not all he lied about. glad I didn't pay much for it.
My current plan is to replace the carb holder/ intake manifold, replace the transmission oil, drain and refill the tank and run it for a few hours to see if it's worth putting any time or money into.
I really appreciate your help figuring this out.
You guys on this forum are impressive.

I don't know if you have it, but I would put the case saver back on it before you take it for a ride.

I'm not sure what you mean by a case saver. I took the counter-shaft sprocket cover off to clean the gunk off the engine. I also removed the rear fender, the guard that sits below the rear fender and protects the shock, the radiator guards and the side panels. What's a case saver?

The case saver is the steel part that should have been behind the plastic sprocket cover. It is there so if the chain breaks it can't get wadded up between the case and the sprocket and break the case.

Looks like there are a couple of healthy exhaust leaks as well, at the cylinder head and the pipe/muffler joint.

I'll look for the case guard and put it on if I have it.
As for the exhaust leaks, are there replaceable seals at the cylinder?
I don't know what to do about the pipe/muffler joint leak. Any ideas?

On the pipe there are two o-rings and a copper washer(at least it looks like copper) that goes inside the cylinder flange. For the connection between the pipe and silencer I got a Rocket exhaust pipe to silencer coupling. It is made out of high temperature rubber. I like it better then the stock one because it allows a little flex and seems to lessen vibration.

At the cylinder best thing to do is make sure BOTH springs are present and serviceable, check the two o-rings and gasket. Lots of folks also use hi-temp rtv to seal the flange with good luck. You can also use the rtv at the pipe/silencer junction underneath the rubber connector. The more I look at the pics tho I don't think its a bad leak so much as the bike looks like it has NEVER been bathed. She needs a good steam/pressure wash for sure.

Both springs are there. I'll look for the o-rings and gasket. As for the steam/pressure wash, I didn't want to do that till I got an intake manifold that wasn't dry rotted. I'm going to price parts from my three favorite vendors and place an order tonight.

You can get it repaired, machine shop can weld it and get it looking good. Never seen one eaten up there, usually its on the top side.

That's a great idea. I have a buddy who can weld. Maybe he can fix it for me.
Just looked at your kx/dx hybrid. What a great idea! Can't wait to find out how it handles.
Thanks again for your help.

I repaired a swingarm damaged like that by filling the grooves with epoxy putty and putting on a new slider.

Epoxy sounds good. I've had great results with fastSteel and will likely try that.
Thanks.
Thanks.
