I'm curious how many of us are there riding an 89-94 KDX200. I figured a poll would make it easy to keep count, so vote if you own an E bike. Give some details on your bike below as well if you feel inclined to do so.

I'm going to vote yes with bacon, but it's a little complicated.

The E series in my garage is a mongrel of different year parts. I lovingly refer to it as my '87,'89,'90,'93,'94 KDX 200.

I started out with a white '90 that was the donor bike for my hybrid build. Then I picked up a basket case '94 parts bike fore some spares. Once the hybrid was finished, I realized I had enough good stuff from the donor and the basket case to build a running E series, so I decided to do that and then give it to my bike-deficient buddy.

Once the assembly began, I found a bunch of problems with the basket bike and the donor. First, the forks on the donor bike were bent. The forks on the '94 were trashed also, so I found a set of '87 C series forks on fleabay. The basket motor had a piece chipped off the transmission input shaft, which then got caught by the clutch basket, so off to fleabay again for an '89 transmission assembly and a '93 clutch assembly. A little cleaning of bearings, new headset bearings, reassembly, and the mongrel was complete.

Not the nicest looking E, but it tears it up pretty well none the less.

Oh, and I should mention it has a '90-something KX 125 19-inch rear wheel, too.

And you might ask why I still have it if I was planning to give it to my buddy. Well, he lives in Atlanta, and I live in NJ, so that's complicated, too. I guess it's in long-term storage at my place, and he can come ride it whenever he pleases!

Gotcha. :)

My 89 was pretty much a partially assembled basket case when I got it. Unknown clutch basket installed that didn't fit (was rubbing on the main gear), various other problems as well. Took a while but I replaced nearly everything and have a solid running and good looking bike now.

Oh, and I love bacon.

I got mine from a kid who abused it. It cost me 530 and it didn't run. I got it running and then I blew it up :cry: but that ended up being the best thing that could have happened to that bike :mrgreen: I ended up getting a 90 bottom that fixed my bad clutch perch, basket and worn countershaft. I replated with a wiseco and I've had some great great days on this bike.

I just have a long list for winter which may include a hybrid.......

What's even more more shocking, is that 33% of E series KDX owners do not love bacon.

It looks like we're up to 11 E bikes, now.

I'm currently in the midst of putting together a 1987 C series bike, which got me to thinking. What are the D series bikes? They go straight from the 1988 C3 to the 1989 E1. Why did they skip from C to E

Oh, and please pass the bacon and maple syrup.

I have a 1990 or 1989 KDX 200. I'm not really sure of the year. It says E-1 on the head, so does that mean 1989? Anyway, the FMF fatty I put on seems to be a more than good investment. I'm now in the process of getting the cylinder plated. Just pick up a left sub valve for the kips. Seems like that's the most common one for stripping. Can't wait to get the bike back together. I've owned it for about 6 years now. Best bike out there, except for the forks. A good set of KX 250 straight rate springs will fix that tho :grin:

Can u save me some bacon for the morning? Lol

I got my E back in the spring of 2010, the original owner took it out of his garage after sitting there for years without being ridden, and I remember seeing his post on craigslist and I really wanted it. But it sold in less than 3 days, I knew it was a really good deal. But the guy who bought it was someone who collects bikes, all he did was get it to run and then sell it for profit. He only had it for about a month and it was back up on craigslist and I went after it. I managed to talk the guy down on price and ended up buying it off his hands for $800, and technically I'm the second "real" owner and I have the original title, owner's manuel, etc. The KDX has always been a bike I was interested in after I found out there were 2-stroke enduro bikes. I sold my first bike, an XR 200, to get the KDX I have now, and it's a shame that it hasn't seen any real trails yet. But if things go good, I plan on racing it in harescrambles and maybe enduros this summer

I have a 93 E bike, PC pipe, gold valves, Rb carb, Vforce 3 intake, Dunlop D803 Trials tire. Love the bike bought it used for 1300 in 02, it had just been rebuilt (all the KIPS valve still work) just had to put a new front rotor on it. I have had a KTM 300 worked it over and thought the grass would be greener but it just didn't do it for me like the KDX so I sold it and am currently building a hybrid with an E motor and a 2003 kx125. I just have never had a better running two stroke. :boogie:

Older post, but I have an 89 E series. Completely re-did it, mostly mechanical rebuild. Rings are worn, so looking at replacement options.
Beyond that, RB carb and head, fmf pipe, trials tire rear, scorpion front. Vapor trail tech setup and mostly working,(speedo not dialed in yet).

I was thinking about buying the VOYAGER from trail tech for my H series. Is the speedo not accurate? or is it a PITA to setup?

I haven't even tried yet - factory settings - just shows faster than normal. I don't know if it is a pain or not as I haven't journeyed down that road yet.

I've '94 that was pretty worn out when I got it three years ago. However, the engine was strong and it had good tires, sprockets and chain on it. Since then, Total Control has rebuilt and tuned the forks and shock. I've put an FMF pipe and muffler and V-force (?) reeds on it and had it rejetted. To the uninitiated (or whatever word's applicable there lol), it looks like a heap. Once it cranks (with one or at most two kicks I might add) and I hit the track or trail, well... :supz:
