hey everyone... i've recently purchased a 2002 KDX220R and have it street plated and have been ripping this thing around like a crazy person... im thinking i most definately want to fully build this bike as a street supermoto... i am going to do the fork conversion to a set of KX250 or KX500 forks, so im wondering if anybody can help me with what size rim and tire combo i need to get, front and rear, what will fit? thanks in advance for any help! i want it to basically be the same as what is on this bike here...

You will need to have 17" excel rims laced to the KDX hubs, and ideally lower the rear linkage/cut down the forks, and valve both for street use.

How well would a 2stroke work on the street without oil injection system?

He already has the headlight and turn signals are not required in all states.

Works just fine. I ran Yamaha RD's for years using only premix with no problems. I also use my KDX on the street up to 55mph quite often and have had no issues.

An oil injection system will be a key player in the future of 2T bikes. I love it on the snow machine. Pull in and gas it up. Wish my KDX had it.

.... and hope there is oil in the tank and it keeps flowing...

so how does this work? do i buy any set of excel wheels and have them relaced to my KDX hubs???

yes. you would lace the rims to your hubs. I saw a supermoto kdx that used wheels off a street bike as well. I don't know what he used...
Ahh, here it is. Thread on dirtflamer.net....

The modern 2T injection (especially concerning 'future') systems are all Direct Injection, and basically work flawlessely. The fuel and oil run off the same pump (different tanks of course) drastically reducing catasrophic events in the case of failure. The carb setups are generally not desired as failure is catastrophic....Gravity fuel, cheezy oil pump.
Full up your tank in 1gal increments, and mark on the outside with a punch or a sharpie/etc. Then when you fill up you'll know how much oil to add FIRST. Carry oil in 1-gal increments (chain saw oil bottles). You can always fill-up, then add oil, but better shake the crap out of it. Also, I'd trust my marks over the pump's guage.

Sure, that's a way around the issue. It's NOT an issue on snowmobiles. You'd see a lot of riders come back to 2Ts if the oil were injected automatically.

Lace them up yourself, it isn't that hard to do. Buy a low cost dial indicator to help true them up. It really is much easier to do than what most people think.

**Edited because I didn't fully read the OP
If it helps, I had wheels built for me from this place:
http://www.procycle.us/
Information - RIM 3.5 x 17 dimpled Excel Takasago Signature Series (SKU from Procycle: REWM61736); RIM 4.5 x 17 (SKU REWM91736)
I wanted to have a set of dirt and street (so I went with building custom wheels off of new OEM hubs vs lacing off of my existing hubs) - Excel, Warp 9 also make rims/spoke kits as well.
I'm also in the process of streeting mine for supermoto - I can post back later once I pass the exam and whatnot :)
