Can i get the bottom bearing off of the kx triple tree myself or do i need a press or something??

Press at a machine shop.

I've removed my old bearing and installed new ones. They aren't that tight on there.

what did you remove them with??

First time I used a prybar and a hammer.
Since then, I just use a cold chisel and cut it off.
To install a new bearing, I use a piece of pipe, an old bearing as a buffer, and press it on, or tap the pipe with a hammer.

ya but i want to keep the bearing i have on there, or the one on my kdx stem right now. They are both in really good shape.

The bearing will come off when the stem is pressed out.

I misunderstood. I thought you where just looking to replace a bearing, not do a stem swap as well.

Since the stem HAS to be pressed on and off, have the bearing done at the same time. A simple 20 ton hydraulic press will do the trick and your NAPA dealer may well have it. My local NAPA dealer does and he set up my KX stem and bearing when I upgraded to a TAG TT. Good Luck!!!

Have them pack the bearing while it's off as well. It's much easier then. Also, have them show you how to hand pack a bearing. It's a good thing to know.

did you napa have a knurkler??

Not that I know of. I didn't use them for my KDX conversion. I used them for my KX250. I got a TAG upper and lower triple clamp and needed a bearing. I brought in my lower clamp/stem piece to show them what the bearing fit and they offered to press the new bearing on. They even gave me the grease to pack it. I had to pack it myself, but it's not hard if you know how.

i called napa and asked if they had a knurkler , he laughed and said what is a knurkler. This is gonna be tough to find a machine shop.

Try looking in the Yellow pages yet?

Try saying it right - knurl, (nûrl). not (k-nurk-kling)
knurled, knurling. do not pronounce the k's.
"Do you have a lathe and a straight line pattern knurling tool?" Maybe that will help when you start calling other places Ryan, you do not want the diagonal or diamond pattern.
Try a fabrication shop, someone who operated a lathe at least 50% of his time will be far more experienced than someone who uses one a few times a week.
Like Mike said , check the yellow pages, they will be there.
