1999 kX125 - 2002 KDX220R Hybrid Project

Ok, knee deep in the project at this point. The KX frame has been blasted, swig arm cut, KDX motor removed, should have the motor case reamed this week (decided to buy a 17mm reamer), front motor mounts repositioned and off to have the frame and swing arm to Powder Coat.

I notice yesterday during fork tear down, a gash mark which appears to have begun due to either corrosion or schaffing on one of the outer tubes. I was able to apply a little sand paper and clean it off. Deepest point is, I'm guessing around 1/8"? However, there appears to be some sort of coating (sealant) on the exterior of the tube? Any suggestion for protecting that spot against the elements? I don't believe its significant enough to effect the strength of the tube but I don't want it to get worse over time.
Thanks
P.S. Anyone interest in KDX parts drop me an email @ bouillions@bellsouth.net. I can send you a few pictures of the bike the day we torn it down. Kinda hated to do it, it was in GREAT shape. My son bought a new KTM 250XCW and he gave me the KDX. I also have an 07 KLX300R in great shape that I'd love to sell.
