Wanting to get black rims, does anyone know which is easier to deal with excel, prowheel or moose. And where is the best place to get the 18" wheel in black. I think the excel needs different spokes dont know about the others. ASny help would be great thanks

What about the Warp 9s. RM has them and it looks like they work with OEM spokes. Just a thought...

1. 'Different' spokes.

Surely you wouldn't lace up a new rim with old OEM spokes?

Anyway, yes. Excel rims have larger nipple holes. Buchannan is a often used spoke outfit 'round here. Didn't look it up, but have before...they're on the web. Well...used to be. Whatever way you go...make sure the rim hole matches the nipple size you get. Excel nips have a VERY nice splined inside end (of the nips).


2. Moose.

I don't know, 'cuz I haven't used them...BUT...I've never found ANYthing from Moose (usually they re-distribute stuff other people make) to be very good. I would never consider 'saving' money on a set of rims. Considering the hassle involved to get them ON...I wouldn't want to waste my time using anything but what is generally considered to be 'the best'.

Warp advertises: 'Top quality colored rims for a fraction of the price..'

Sorry. You don't get 'top quality' for a 'fraction of the price'. They are a fraction of the price for a reason!.

Likely won't find A60 blacks in an 18", but 'regular' Excels?

I've got the warp 9 rims, no complaints, but can't have more than a few hundred miles on them.

Warranty claims if it breaks or bends they'll replace. I've also heard good things about the pro wheels ( i think that's what they are called ).

By the time you figure your time worth much of anything..or for sure if you pay someone else to do it, UNlacing and RElacing the bad one OUT and the warranty replacement IN, let alone pay for shipping...how far 'ahead' are you with that warranty?

Who provided the spokes? Were they FOR a KDX, or a KX x-reference?

Did the hub-end of the spokes fit (perfectly) as they should in the hub?

I bought a set of Excel spokes for broken OEM replacement. They are for a KX, but supposed to fit a KDX. The fit to the hub is less than wonderful.

I bought a set of Excel spokes for broken OEM replacement. They are for a KX, but supposed to fit a KDX. The fit to the hub is less than wonderful.

They were a direct and perfect fit to the wheel.

I unlaced the wheel, paid a shop 85 bucks to lace them and true. From what I understand and what i've read, u damage a wheel you send it in, they send you it back laced and ready to go.

I can't confirm that though as i have no direct experience.

Now THAT would be a much better deal...let MIKEY do it!!!

In case that's a question directed at me -

I reused my existing spokes and nipples and hubs, there was absolutely no problem in doing so.

You're lucky you could even get the OEM nips off the spokes. I spent hours with a torch, vise-grips on the spokes (ouch) to get mine loosened up. Still ended up cutting out a few.

New SS spokes are so purty, though........................

yeah i've heard that, and i was prepared. But really i just shot some penatrating oil on, and pull them out, was pretty straight forward.
