Would a 2001 CR125 frame work well for a hybrid? I may be able to pick up a complete bike with a recently locked up engine for $500-$600. Any advice is appreciated.

The '01 125 frame is the same as the 250. It works out real well. I love mine.

Did you have modify the frame any where the exhuast pipe comes out of the head?

If you get it let me know what you want for the 125 motor

It turned out to be a 2000, but according to the OEM part list it is the same frame as the 2001. It also turned out the engine is not locked, but does not have any compression.

Fuzzy, I am going to pull the top end off of the engine and I will let ya know if it is for sale or not and the condition, if your interested in the 2000 model.

Dewey-
I can't speak for the 2000 CR125 frame you have, but I did build a 1999 CR250 hybrid with an '02 220 motor and it worked out great. I had to work on the swingarm a bit and shorten one of the swingarm inner races. The pipe I used is from a '96 CR250 modified to fit the KDX jug.
Best woods bike I've ever had.

I had a KX125 for a while. I had put a lot of effort into getting it running well. No matter what I did it was still a 125, if you know what I mean.

JC, I used a FMF Gnarly Rev pipe and added approximately 2" to the pipe inlet so the pipe would clear the frame. I used a FMF Q silencer and had to add the same distance to the inlet of it.

I only got to ride it one time before I had to go back to sea, but this is the bike Kawasaki should have made all along. When I get home I'll take some pictures.

I used a fmf fatty and had to cut the pipe, twist, add a sliver, and then bend/cut/reweld the stinger. Newer than 94 pipes should be easier because they start out lower than the older kdx pipes.
Oh, and I cut my muffler in half to keep my sparky and ditch the rest. Runs fine.
