I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for keeping water out of the airbox with the lid removed. I was washing my new bike today, took off the seat and noticed that the filter was wet. Now im not sure if it gets wet during normal river crossing, or just the angle from washing it? I have no experience with this bike, or fullsize bikes for that matter. (Had a 150f) I would just put the lid back on, but I don't have it since it was removed by the previous owner and he didn't have it when I bought it.

look on ebay for a stock lid, and get some uni filter vents,also on ebay,four to a pack i think, take off the stock snorkle from the lid and put 5 or 6 vents all over the lid, just missing the rectifier,depending on what year you have.look at mr. wibbins bike profile and bike pics and you will know what to do.maybe someone on here has a frisbee lid to give you.i like the lid better with vents and a shot of filter oil on them.not as much "roar". j$

Oh, and I couldn't find any lids (frisbees) on ebay. Does anyone have one here?

No snorkel and foam covered holes keep '..water out of the airbox..' how?

I guess the presumption is that would help in keeping out the occasional bit of splash?

Words meaning things...and those words being fairly straightforward, there isn't going to be any 'keeping water out' with the snorkel removed..and precious little 'keeping water out' with holes drilled in the lid, whether filled with foam or not.

It's a question of balance, is it not? A balance between better performance and better engine protection. I've drowned my bike with the lid ON...and with holes drilled in it, snorkel in place.

...but only ONCE.

I've had my Banshee live through a thigh-deep water crossing. If I had holes drilled in THAT lid...OR had the snorkel removed, it would'a been dead.

So...make your choice...and pay the price at some time or other.

Well like I said before, I don't have the choice of using the lid since I don't have one. I'd just leave it stock probably if I had the lid, but alas, I do not.

Something to put in the 'wanted' section of this board.

Lot'sa riders take theirs off, so I'm sure SOMEone will have one they will be more'n happy to part with.

Since I built my hybrid I have the same problem. I wish I could still have an airbox as good as what comes on the KDX. The KX airbox is terrible at keeping out water. If the stock KDX airbox with lid and snorkel would fit on the hybrid that is what I would be using. Hmmmm. Maybe I should try to make it fit.....
