Prepping my '05 220 for a new Wiseco setup. I will have pics to follow soon, but I'll tell you what I've found so far. I'm disassembling as many parts as I can to clean and inspect them, one less hassle to worry about when the new stuff gets here.

Pulled the head today to check the condition of the cylinder. Thankfully, it looks brand spankin' new! Not a mark at all.

The head had almost no carbon buildup, it came clean with an old toothbrush and a little Purple Power. KIPS valve and parts have some carbon buildup, be better able to tell once the jug is off.

I will post pics of the stock piston this week when I receive my new parts. Don't know if there will be any "damage" or stress to be found on it since my bike is fairly low miles. I suspect it will be in fine shape, but I still feel better knowing I can rely on the top end to hold together, especially with future mods.

Those of you with stock piston 220s - it really is cheap insurance; and the work involved is much easier than you may think. I was prepared for a brutal teardown job, but it's not so bad. My $.02

Im doing the same to my 05 220 also.
Done the tear down and got my new Wiseco piston in,
just waiting for my carb and head to get back from RB to finish
putting it all back together....

Being the first time i've had a cylinder off one of these newer dirt
bikes it wasn't to bad , just extra parts to remove compaired to the 70's
models I use to own and work on...

Also while I've had it down I took the shock linkage off and greased
it up real good, it was needing it.. Now that was a little tricky but it's all
back together and torqued to spec's by the service manual...

Been there, done that!

It amazing what little lubricant there is from the factory on the steering and suspension bearings.

Can't afford the RB mods yet, but they're in my future. Supposed to be night and day difference over stock.

You DID support the KIPS activation shaft when you took off the LHT nut, right?

Any response along the line of, 'Didn't need to', 'Sort of', or 'Huh?' won't work.

$45 for your head? It's not worth taking it off to get it done...it's already off..call it money saved!!

Also, remember to fully warm up w/ the wiseco piston.

Curious...what are you folks coming up with for clearance values on a Wiseco?

A wrench that fits is better'n visegrips..but visegrips is better'n nuthin!

I disassembled my kips yesterday. An 8mm open end wrench fit the flat spot perfectly.

I did support the shaft. That damn nut was on unbelievably tight! They use threadlocker on that from the factory?

From RB website:
The 220's get a big benefit , as they are low in the compression department. This will give a better pull through the mid-range and helps with top-end power.
All of these mods are designed so you can still use premium pump gas. On request, I can give you even more compression for the serious engine builder. This will give more power and you will need to use race fuel.

Well worth the $45 IMHO
